The Localization Lab recently said on Twitter that three new languages have been added to the Tor Project's main website for translation: Khmer, Korean, and Traditional Chinese (Taiwan). Anyone who wants to help localize the Tor Browser can join the Tor Project translation team.
Helping the Tor Project with translations
According to the Localization Lab Wiki: https://wiki.localizationlab.org/index.php/Tor, the following steps need to be done to help the Tor Project translate.
- Create a Transifex account: Don't have a Transifex account yet? Create one here: https://www.transifex.com/signup/
- Join the Tor Project and Tor Project web translation team: https://www.transifex.com/otf/torproject/dashboard/, application required.
- Download the Tor Browser: Consider downloading the Tor Browser for the platform you are translating for, as this will allow you to adapt the tool and view the original English strings and translations in context. Tor Browser can be downloaded and installed on "Android", "Linux", "macOS" and "Windows".
- Start translation from #Translation Priorities and Resources#(https://wiki.localizationlab.org/index.php/Tor).
The list of resources and translation priorities will help you decide what to tackle first in your Psiphon project. Some resources are more important than others because they affect more Psiphon users. Spend your time first on the resources that have the greatest impact on your users.
Localization Lab
Localization Lab is a global community of more than 7,000 contributors who support the translation and localization of Internet freedom tools - technologies that address online access, security, digital literacy, and anonymity to ensure that people around the world have a safe way to access information on the Internet. Many of the tools translated by the Localization Lab protect the lives and safety of individuals who do not have public access to Internet information.
Since 2012, Localization Labs has provided open source technology in 220 languages to underrepresented communities, bringing equal access to information, better online representation, and expanding the user base of its support projects.
